Haggis Hunt - Episode 3 - Tamed Haggis Living in Aberdeen.

We are  a serious bunch here at Gaelo Jewellery, and we work very hard making beautiful things. But being surrounded by some of the world's most wonderful scenery, it's hard not to sneek into the hills for a walk sometimes.

But in the winter, we allow ourselves a proper guilt-free break... for our annual haggis hunt, and we stagger (because of the heather...nothing else) over the hills and moors in search of our prey. Participating in a proper Haggis Hunt is a bit like being dragged backwards through a prickly bush...its rough and cold and tiring...and once it's over and done, one feels a healthy rosy glow.

Following our classic all time best Haggis Hunt, we received volumes of correspondence on the subject of haggis...and the hunting thereof. And...believe or not, a report that a haggis was living happily in a ground floor flat in a posh part of the fair city of Aberdeen. The caller did not identify herself (note herself) but we thank her nevertheless.
Our first reaction to this information was, well, incredulity, as you would imagine.
Here in our office, a pink  Post It note was stuck to a computer screen with the message "Haggis? Aberdeen?" and none of us did anything about it, suspecting a hoax.
But then we received a second call telling us about an elderly lady , again, supposedly in Aberdeen, who really really really did have a pet haggis. We went, we investigated and we found!
In tracking down this elderly lady, we were greatly assisted by Mr Graeme Barber, the Alford Butcher. Himself  is a great expert on the haggis and of course knows all the local ins and outs. Mr Barber only sells legal haggis, and those are absolutely the best to be had.

Of course, the identity of the lady with the pet haggis must be kept a secret, but we have her permission to call her Mrs Mac H*****. Mrs Mac H***** was reluctant at first to answer our calls, suspecting we were offering either free kitchens or double glazing, but eventually we won her confidence and are really proud to present these first world exclusive pictures to visitors to our website.

The sleuths among you will no doubt have noticed that the wild haggis which we were fortunate to have captured on camera (open to offers, of course, for this word exclusive) shows an animal with a beak not unlike a duckbill platipus...whilst the one which resides in great comfort with Mrs. 'McH..' has a sweet little button of a nose. The fact of the matter is that it is the wild haggis that has the big beak and the domesticated haggis that has the small nose. Wild ones are also aggresive in character and, as one of our hunters dicovered, they can give quite a nasty bite. If you are bitten by a haggis, the
cure is restorative liquids' liberally applied externally and internally.
